The Trials and Tribulations of Owning and Training a Puppy! Part 9

So, it feels like winter is finally here, with the clock change we now have dark evenings and my training window has all but disappeared as I try to get work done and continue to educate my puppy. Not only that, but the advent of cold frosty nights means the whippets don’t want leave the comfort of the log burner for more than a brief evening walk (and neither do I!). All of this makes it hard to get motivated to train let alone fit it into daylight hours.

Training in the house is limited to what we can actually do and lends itself more to scent than anything else, although our sit wait training is good, as is our work on all of Brin’s positions. So, I have decided the bulk of our work for the next week or so will be smartening up our sit so he doesn’t move backwards at all and working on fading any luring for each of sit, down and stand. I thought it would also be good to work on Brin’s Parkour commands and teach him a few simple tricks to keep his brain going so watch this space for some new ideas.

If anyone has any suggestions of tricks or indoor winter training ideas, please do message me or show me what you’ve been doing with your pup. I’d love to hear from you!
